This week, OpenAI officially enters the SalesTech space with the launch of ChatGPT Record.
You could argue it was already here: its Deep Research capability made ChatGPT a go-to Research Assistant for many sales reps.
ChatGPT Record captures and summarizes meetings and voice notes, integrates with Microsoft Teams, Outlook, Gmail, and Google Calendar, and, paired with its analytical power, delivers a credible Conversational Intelligence (CI) solution.
Some are already calling it the end of Gong and the death of the category.
Not so fast.
Gong has long moved beyond CI, repositioning as a Revenue Intelligence platform and now expanding into Revenue Execution.
And the category? It's been evolving for years. CI is increasingly a feature embedded in broader sales and revenue platforms. But the space is far from dead. In fact, it’s grown to over 80 players.
Our perception of maturity is skewed by the tech industry and startups, where CI adoption is already widespread. In many other industries, it's still early days. There’s real room for simple add-ons that can be easily added to existing sales stacks.
So yes, it’s being commoditized. But written off? Not yet.
What’s most promising about ChatGPT Record isn’t just the feature—it’s the ubiquity. It’s not limited to virtual meetings. It works in person. That could change the adoption trajectory across industries.
