Genesys announced it is acquiring Pinkfish.
Pinkfish is a relatively new, 30-month-old workflow orchestration platform. Despite its founders’ roots in customer service and contact centers, Pinkfish has so far targeted enterprise workflow automation broadly rather than CX specifically.
It can be viewed as a modern, AI-native evolution of automation platforms such as UiPath or ServiceNow, with a strong emphasis on simplifying and democratizing process automation through natural language and AI. Workflows are built from nodes/steps that can be deterministic, agentic, or involve tool calls. The company lists 500 integrations and 25,000 MCP tools.
Pinkfish applies agentic capabilities primarily at the step level to create workflows or agents using natural language, dynamically discover and select tools, and execute simple tasks. This enables a hybrid model where deterministic workflows can leverage AI-driven step execution. The ability to define workflows or steps through natural language is making process automation more accessible to business users.
Genesys has been aggressively expanding its agentic capabilities. It introduced its Agentic Virtual Agent earlier this year, featuring Large Action Models (LAMs) via its partnership with Scaled Cognition alongside traditional LLM-based approaches. LAMs aim to reduce hallucinations, in particular through curated training datasets, including synthetic data and simulated actions, which improve the accuracy of tool use and action execution. Pinkfish extends these capabilities by enabling self-service requests to be executed and fulfilled across enterprise systems.
Perhaps more significantly, this acquisition marks a meaningful step into back-office customer interaction fulfillment and end-to-end process execution. Genesys already had Work Item and Case Management capabilities, and the press announcement explicitly links the acquisition to the latter for long-running processes. The signal is clear: Genesys isn’t just orchestrating customer experiences anymore. It wants to own a larger share of CX workflow execution.
